Pearl necklace: Today about 98% of pearls are cultivated and not naturally found, so cultivated pearls are grown in both salt water and fresh water. The Pearls have always been associated with luxury and for centuries were highly prized and extremely expensive. Those pearls were naturally found saltwater pearls which are not cultivated as they are today, but searched by the divers as cultivated ones did not exist until about a century ago.

The Records show that freshwater specimens were cultivated as early as 700 years ago by the Chinese. The Pearls come in many colors, ranging from pale white to black, they may even be brown, silver, cream and pink. The color depends on where it was grown and what shellfish created it. The Pearls have always been very popular as jewellery. These white orbs are perfect for necklaces or even to stand alone in a medallion.

One marvelous thing about buying pearls is that once bought, you are not stuck with the original necklace design. The reason this happened was the mollusc species was changed and so the resultant pearls are not the same type as the original tiny, bumpy, seed type which were the freshwater pearls.

The Lustre is the most important factor and is the density of the pearl. Then the Lower quality pearls may appear too white or too dull. Similarly, a pearl is rarely perfectly round. The shape is therefore also considered. The more perfectly round the pearl is, the more valuable it is. The color is less important and really depends more on the wearer’s preference. When buying pearls, it is very important to look out for imitation pearls which are painted shell beads.

However they certainly are fabulous investment if you are looking for something which enhances you and your style, and of course you can re-model them whenever you feel bored. When shopping for pearl jewellery such as pearl necklaces or pearl bracelets, it is important that you realize what you are buying, and how retailers grade their pearls.

So, remember that pearls give such wonderful radiance to a lady’s face and that investment alone is something you simply cannot buy.
